Biography

Lotanna is currently a research assistant at the University of Chinese Academy of Science, from where he also gained his PhD in genetics. Prior to this he received a MSc in Zoology from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria.

Lotanna hopes that the Fellowship will aid in his capacity building and development in the area of understudied amphibian conservation. Further to this he is looking forward to the opportunity to interact with conservationists throughout Africa from where he could learn new techniques he can incorporate into his actions in Nigeria.

EDGE Project

Lotanna’s project aims to prioritise the conservation of Conraua robusta in Akor community whilst promoting positive conservation behaviour amongst local communities bordering the Cross River National Park (CRNP).

His objectives are to:

  • Determine the presence and relative abundance of C. robusta in three main habitat types (forest, wetland and riparian) within CRNP by the end of the project period;
  • Determine additional suitable habitat for C. robusta in Nigeria by the end of project year one;
  • Assess the possible presence and distribution of Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) and other threats to the survival of C. robusta in CRNP at the end of project year one;
  • Promote the adoption of conservation friendly behaviour for C. robusta among the Akor community of CRNP by end of project.
