Biography
Through total dedication, hard work and perseverance, Phuong has developed the Carnivore and Pangolin Conservation Programme into one of the most progressive and innovative conservation programmes for pangolins. Phuong’s expertise and networking skills have been crucial in obtaining national acceptance of the reintroduction guidelines.
The knowledge and lessons learnt through the EDGE Fellowship programme allowed Phuong to improve his leadership, project management and practical ecological skills which he has then passed on to other CPCP staff and Vietnamese conservationists.
EDGE Project
Phuong’s EDGE Fellowship project aimed to improve the reintroduction success of trade confiscated Sunda pangolins in Vietnam. He undertook the following objectives:
- Collect baseline biological data from confiscated pangolins;
- Enhance local capacity through training in field techniques;
- Develop and implement an international-standard release programme;
- Radio-track released pangolins to gain vital ecological data;
- Raise public awareness through workshops.
Achievements
- Featured in the BBC Natural World Special Attenborough’s Ark.
